I like this quote. It is true it is hard to reveal our true selves and then suffer rejection or criticism but on the other hand if someone loves you for your false self they are not really loving you.

Thanks so much for your comment. Your talking about true and false selves reminds me of “Immortal Diamond” by Richard Rohr, which our spirituality group at church is currently studying.

Sounds interesting. Does the author discuss the same theme about expressing our true selves?

Yes, the book is largely about becoming your True Self. Richard Rohr is a Franciscan priest, so he speaks from a Christian experience, while bringing in other spiritual/philosophical traditions as well. It is a follow-up book to “Falling Upward” which dealt with First/Second Half of life issues.

Reblogged this on LESS©NS LEARNED and commented:
“Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matthew 5:43-44).

Thanks for the re-blog, even though it was Gide who wrote it.
