“America is never wholly herself unless she is engaged in high moral principle. We as a people have such a purpose today. It is to make kinder the face of the Nation and gentler the face of the world. My friends, we have work to do.”
~~~ President George Herbert Walker Bush (1924-2018) from his inaugural address
It seems even more timely now than when President Bush spoke those words.
Thanks for the one-liner tribute. Our country could use a kinder, gentler President.
Kinder and gentler. What a lovely reminder.
I wanted to use the larger quote to remind us that it is a call for each of us in the United States. Some have taken it to heart and live it every day, but others have sadly gone in the opposite direction. I’m hoping the tributes to President Bush Senior will elicit reflection on how we are conducting ourselves in both the public and private sphere – and improvement in behavior and attitude as warranted.
